Suddenly there is whole new world to explore and be part of, a new and enquiring mind is going to set about to do just that, explore. With any exploration there are risks, for children it is not different. Spurred on by older siblings or peer group encouragement, things happen. A trip out of the sandpit, a fall off the slide, a crash off a scooter, the list is endless. Just because a child stops crying does not mean that something else did not happen to a spinal joint.

One rule of thumb that Dr Gilmore has used in assessing if there has been the chance of an adverse effect on the spine is this:- if you fall from a height greater than your own, or have ‘crash’ at a speed greater than what you can run flat out, then chances are you will potentially strain/sprain/jar/displace some joint.
